Happy New Year! 2021!

When I was a teenager in the 1980s, the year 2000 seemed so far away. Now its 2021?!?

A theme mentioned several times in the Bible can be seen in Psalm 144:4 "Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow." Meaning our lives really are not all that long.

During the summers when I was in college I worked 12+ hour days working out in the fields driving a combine for Simplot, a harvesting/packaging company in Washington State. With a one way drive of about 30 minutes, and figuring in sleep, there was not much time I had free in a day. While I was driving harvester I would plan out one thing that I needed to make sure I accomplished when I got home from work. It could be anything from going to the store (making a list to maximize time) to watching a half hour of TV as a break from the day. The little bit of free time was precious and brief. I had to make every minute matter.

Psalm 39:4-5 “LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered–how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”

How do we spend our time?

I recently posted some scripture on the End of the Matter Ministries Facebook page:

I keep thinking how do we as Christians spend our time. Stop and think, compared to prayer and Bible study how much time do you spend watching TV, YouTube, Pinterest, or surfing the net on a whim. Psalm 90:12 "Teach us to number each of our days so that we may grow in wisdom." Not to mention any other interests you may have that don't involve technology. Spending time with God and glorifying Him with your life should be your top priority.

Proverbs 13:4 "The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich."

A new year tends to get us all thinking about our lives because it is a reminder that time is passing (watching that year click from 2020 to 2021), much like when we hit birthdays.

This isn't about trying to do better. This is about replacing our worldly ways with righteous (God's) ways. We don't have much time on this earth, so will we spend our time on the things that don't last or on those that are eternal?

God bless
